KaNa-Episode 12 [Snow Freques]

 

 

There is much beauty in the world as there is darkness. Music has the undeniable power of expressing loads of emotions which could come from either a dark place or a light one depending on the occasion. Dance music producers have the ability to convey a plethora of moods into their music according to their current state of mind, recent or past experiences. A dance music artist that has left a profound mark in the scene, as she ascends each year via her productions and DJ skills  is "KaNa" from the modern, yet in many ways traditional, faraway land of Japan. Her latest offering to the scene is the "Episode 12" E.P, released on her own label "Snow Freques". Each release comes to us with a beautiful, unique artwork set in the Japanese manga style, crafted and designed by Kana Ijuin herself. This release contains two special tracks that will definitely move you beyond words!

"PKG": A playful percussion sets things off in the right mood, as an aura of tranquil melodies comes settling in. The turbulent bassline comes marching in, bringing with it a delightful medley of melodies, much like the eloquent dance of falling leaves on a crisp Autumn day. Harmonious moments arise, all the while decorated by sounds of nature and the faraway calls of birds of the wild. Delicate melodic tones appear in the break like a gust of unpredictable wind, enhancing and spreading the feeling of serenity furthermore alongside the rest of the key elements. After the break the track resumes its course while its beauty unfolds instilling moments of peace and grandeur within us all.

"Translucence": Booming basslines synced accordingly with the appropriate percussion start the game off in a positive manner. Meticulous, joyful melodies doused with effects and buzzing semi-distorted synths shake things up as if arousing the populous from one's daily slumber. The tune contains an inner innocence displayed beautifully through the intricate, luscious melodies while struggling with its tendency for mischief tucked in snugly in the buzzing synth motions described above. The joy, innocence and tranquility return in all their glory within the break while the rushing of a cooling stream can be heard from afar. The might and energy make their imminent escape through the build of the track, spreading joy and sunshine via the upbeat leads and mesmerizing melodies. 

A marvelous package of tunes for every occasion! Another wonderful and innovating release by the one and only "KaNa"! Seek it out and achieve inner harmony!

Aldor-Strangers [Tribute To Life]

 

In the dance music world there are endless possibilities to discover new and exciting acts and artists alike. Most recently we happen to be introduced to the standout dance music artist from United States, the one and only "Aldor". His glorious new single finds its way to a very special label, one that does things a tad differently from the masses and does not shy away from showcasing a plethora of various styles within the versatile cosmos of dance music. "A Tribute To Life" is the label in question, owned and operated by German dance music icon "Dennis Sheperd". His decision to re-open its doors was a great moment for us dance music fans. I for one feel fortunate to showcase one of its finest new releases "Strangers" by aforementioned artist "Aldor".

 We are eagerly greeted within by a playful percussion, throbbing bassline and some real pesky "BTesque" reverse vox already gaining our undivided attention, as the tune begins to build and expand before our very eyes or ears for that matter. Various sound effects and an intro to a well placed male vocal performance shows us all what awaits beyond the bend. The brief break allows the singer a definite moment to shine while he delivers a harmonic and soul piercing performance like no other, all the while complemented by melodic elements and curious effects. The main melody takes over as the amalgam of proggy and deep house continues, while further fueling the emotional lamentation of the track and singer at that. Deep, emotional and gripping release! One can feel the anguish, foreboding and deep despair throughout it all.

Brian McCalla & James Black Present Falling Blossom [We Are Trance Deep]

 

So many amazing releases out there, so little time to cover them all. When I discover something special I go out of my way to share it with the dance music world and the readers of "MusicTalk15" of course. This exceptional release is out on "We Are Trance Deep", sub label of "We Are Trance", a label forged by the undeniable pillar of trance in South Africa, the one and only "Dirkie Coetzee". Together with the amazing team behind the label, they have unearthed a rare gem. "Brian McCalla", no stranger to the label has teamed up with "James Black" for the first time. Joining their creative minds as one they created the most beautiful "Falling Blossom". 

 The guys have pulled out all the stops here. Pounding basslines, a "feel good" rhythmical percussion and nefarious synths get things jumping. Our hearts pound with anticipation while the gradual introduction of the main synth which oozes with emotion, brings things to a higher state as the main melody arrives in full, surrounding us with an undeniable power: that of a true and pure serenity. The break totally grasps for our soul with its inner beauty, a combination of moving melodies drenched in utter bliss and motivation. The buildup is unreal and the track packs a radiance unlike no other. Energetic, wild, ecstatic and soul cleansing all bound in one package.

Rob Binner-Blessing In Disguise [Redux Recordings]

 

With countless releases being unleashed each week of every month one can definitely get overwhelmed and in turn miss some rather exceptional tunes while trying to keep up with it all. As fortune would have it I recently stumbled upon a most exceptional release on "Redux Recordings". This release has been created by one "Rob Binner", a very promising artist situated in the South of The Netherlands, Venlo to be exact. Rob has had the chance to shine supporting magnanimous acts like fellow Dutchman "Sander Van Doorn" under his "Purple Haze" alias showcase for the prestigious "Airwalk Events"! Aside from performing Rob is a top producer as you will easily see. His latest release has been dubbed "Blessing In Disguise". 

 From the moment we press the play button, a magical whirlwind of unstoppable energy is emitted from within. Adrenaline fused basslines, scorching synths and a fine assembly of various vox keep things pumping. Soul piercing melodies appear in the midst of it all like a beacon of light in the dark cloudless sky while the full on frenzy leads devour everything that lies in their path. The break boasts a plethora of lush goodies such as soaring dolphin-like cries, tranquil yet inspiring pads and female vocal wails. All these elements blend together so beautifully a captivating aural image is created out of thin air, leaving us all gaping mouth open at the rare beauty of it all. It does not take long for the track to resume its rather epic, exciting state as it builds, toying with the every fiber of our being, slightly before its positively explosive nature is unmasked once and for all!

There have been loads of exquisite tunes out over the summer months. Each track added an extra amount of heat to further spice up our summer. Autumn may be here officially but our mind remains in summer mood as hot releases keep coming our way! 

 One of the coolest and most exciting collaborations I have come across recently is the stellar "Universe" by Grammy nominated singer/songwriter and DJ Jes Brieden or "JES" as she is widely known by and one of the hottest emerging talents of the last years, Atila Tot or "Space Motion" as he has become known in the scene. These two surely know their craft well and it is no small wonder why this release will go on to be played out by the who's who of clubland. Out now on "Exit Soundscape" this one will have you skyrocketing to the heavens above with just one listen.

 We are eagerly welcomed within by pounding basslines, a complementary thriving percussion and most intriguing melodies. Whooshes and bangs plus female vocal exhales create a vibrant yet hazy atmosphere full of mystery and excitement. JES's distinct voice guides us along, enthralling and ecstatic as can be. The first mild break arrives and she utterly shines within, pouring all the essence of her soul into her rich vocal performance amidst cosmic melodies and turbulent synths. A chopped vox serenade of the highest measure arises keeping up with the spirit and cosmic energy of the track. The second break makes its appearance and she conquers our hearts anew, moving mind over matter, as the distinct chorus carries on like fuel, igniting an array of semi distorted synths and full on euphoric leads that burn everything in their path like wildfire with their might and splendor.

ZOYA & FACTORe-Sun Is Dark [Avanti]

 

As summer passes and autumn beckons so do the ongoing releases shift their mood according to the season at hand, or so it may seem. Once more the ever promising label that is "Avanti" managed by Danish DJ/Producer "Kris O' Neil" showcases quality over quantity! One of their newest releases showcases the undeniable talents of artists "ZOYA" and "FACTORe". Both of these artists has made a name for themselves and continue to excel in the dance music cosmos!

"Sun Is Dark" is their new collaboration , one that will undoubtedly remain a favorite to many for the longest time! A concrete bassline, paired up with the appropriate minimalistic percussion signify the strength of the track at hand. Fueled by waves of euphoric, metallic tendencies, fragments of vocal speech and male vox, an electrifying atmosphere is easily formulated. Chill and thrills occur as the track progresses ever forward. A male vocoder style performance follows in all its nefarious, dystopian glory, decorated and enhanced by a plethora of dramatic melodies and subterranean effects rightly applied for the season that ghouls and ghosts may begin to walk among us. A spectacular menacing otherworldly atmosphere blows us all aback with its greatness! 

 An added bonus to this already stunning release is the uncanny remix by dance music duo on the rise "Framewerk". These guys take their job seriously building on the darkness within and somehow enhancing it tenfold! Ominous synths, a wisely crafted percussion and a clever usage of added effects get our blood curdling. The vocoder performance is of course included alongside the beloved dramatic melodies of the original. Techy synths and driving aspects are also incorporated within shifting gears towards a futuristic oriented approach that the populous will definitely eat up. Stutter effects on the main robotic vocals are a nice touch as well.

 This package is chock full of a dark, techy, progressive and melodic goodness with a sinister plot at the very end! This release needs to be yours!

08 Orbit & MeowWow-Now Would Be The Time [Elevation London]

 

Not long ago I featured a review for a release which went by the name of "Celestia". This release did very well and was supported heavily by the who's who of the dance music scene! An added bonus was the exquisite set of remixes provided by none other than English phenomenal producer "Danny Stubbs". The recipe for success was most certainly evident. It seems that the creators of the tune decided that it was time for yet another joined collaboration and here we are! "08 Orbit" has teamed up once again with "MeowWow" for another stellar release that just came out on "Elevation London", a relatively new and quite promising label. "Now Would Be The Time" is the name of the track, which comes with an added surprise. "Danny Stubbs" is along for the ride once again!

 Deep, ominous and thumping beats reach our ever welcoming ears from the very first moments of play. All the elements are conjured up in perfect harmony, creating a bleak, autumn like atmosphere. One can only envision the rustling of dead crumpled leaves carried by the brief gusts of wind. Melancholic female vocals arrive in due time courtesy of the vocalist who utterly shines in her performance, adding depth, magnitude and a sense of deep rooted feelings longing to be exposed. Progressive grooves appear highlighted by addictive led-like melodies. A rush like no other occurs within the track as her vocals resonate deep within us all. Grasp the opportunity and try your hand at the table of life. If you are thinking of that special someone, now would be the time to act! An ecstatic, marvelous, unique and wonderful progressive vocal offering! 

When a track is this good could anything be done to alter or enhance its perfection? "Danny Stubbs" thinks so, supplying his very own rendition of the tune which he dubbed the "Danny Stubbs Horizon Mix". He starts the show with a tribal drum affair which includes infused basslines and his very own melodic aural patterns to get things rolling. The vocals match the reforged atmosphere adding the "chill factor" with a mighty clever usage of chopped female vox and reverse vocal effects, making it further haunting, enchanting and simply mesmerizing. The original elements are properly made use of thus complementing the original perfectly. The undeniable rush constructed by the chopped vox serenade and frenetic buildups is one of a kind. 

 Now would be the time to get your hands on this release! It needs to be in everyone's DJ case or playlist alike! "MeowWow" and "08 Orbit" score once more!

One of dance music's unsung heroes is without a shred of doubt, Danish DJ/Producer "Kris O'Neil". Kris has been at the very outskirts of the scene for the longest time, never too far from the action. Over the years he has released his very own masterful productions on a great number of labels which include "Avanti", "In Trance We Trust", "Ultraviolet Music", "Perfecto Records" and "AVA Recordings". Aside from all that he has had the pleasure and rare honor of showcasing his selections and sound on an edition of the prestigious "In Trance We Trust" DJ mix compilation and of course manages and curates the full on quality seekers of all things progressive, label "Avanti". 

 His latest venture has led him to new territories, to the mighty "Coldharbour Recordings" itself owned and operated by none other than "OTC" maestro "Markus Schulz". His new single is the tongue twister "Speelplaats" and it is out now on all major platforms.

 Kris does what he does best, displaying his finest abilities in constructing a killer all around progressive gem. A solid bassline and a headstrong percussion set the mood accordingly till the led influenced melody sneakily edges its way ever inwards, decorated quite beautifully with heavenly outbursts and warm soothing pads. Echo filled effects (risers) continue the job while the evident break makes its appearance. Serene moments of clarity await amongst the fleeting noises of nature: the poetic flight and calls of native songbirds and the innocence of children's joyous cries amidst the tranquil melodic patterns. The fun continues as the melodies take over throughout the rolling basslines and aural exhales.

Memory Loss presents LUNA-Mayday [AVA Recordings]

 

So many gems have been unearthed and discovered this season constructed by some of the world's most versatile and talented artists. Many of you may be familiar with Canadian DJ/Producer "Memory Loss", a truly charismatic female artist who has supplied us with some of the most aural melodic treasures over the years. Everyone has two sides, two versions of themself if you please. Darkness and light may coincide without issues thus holding a perfect balance in the world. A darker, brooder alter ego of "Memory Loss" has emerged a while back that goes by the name of "LUNA". Her latest release finds her back on familiar turf ("AVA Recordings") and she is proud to present us with her new brainchild under the aforementioned alias which is called "Mayday".

 We are eagerly introduced to a world inhabited by techy rhythms, steam engine constructed basslines, nefarious aural patterns and a furious percussion. Ecstatic synths quickly rush in like a race of sorts, rapidly consuming everything that lies in their path. The break brings forth enigmatic female vocal phrases, lunar shone luminous melodic pathways and echo infused claps. Never standing still for too long the energetic leads come back to assume their rightful duties complete with clock-like effects and feverishly paced synths pacing themselves for a countdown. A glorious, electrifying tune that will undoubtedly create havoc on all dance floors on a global scale! Essential tuneage!

ATARA-Samsara (Album Review)

 

One of the joys of dance music is the constant search and discovery of new mind bending tunes and of course gifted artists. Some may find it tiring or futile like on a constant search for The Holy Grail. I myself find it exhilarating! There are so many artists out there that are talented, follow their passion and strive to be heard in the vast spectrum of dance music! 

One of these gifted artists that has been honing her craft for quite a spell comes to us from the faraway land of Israel. Sigal Cohen or "ATARA" as she has become known in the dance music cosmos, has played her fair share of events in her native land and as far abroad as Greece and Hungary. She has also supplied us with a fair share of unique and ecstatic tunes to arouse the senses. She most recently finished up her latest labor of love: her first artist album. A milestone for any producer out there! It is a rare treat to have early access to it and present you with a full scale review of "ATARA's" new album the amazing "Samsara"!

"Unity": African chants and cries form the beginning of the track while the rest of the elements fall harmonically into place. Strumming melodies come rushing in amidst frantic fills, loads of effects and explosions. Pounding basslines, ecstatic rhythms and speech samples reconfigured from the previous African cries are ever present here. Female one liners signify the start of an adrenaline fast paced rush as the main leads kick in spreading a vast amount of positive energy!

"Boing Mushroom": A futuristic female vocal introduction lays out before us amusing our curiosity while dreamy melodies are welcomed eagerly within giving us an inside look into another world. A plethora of psy-trance influenced effects are added with good measure among turbulent basslines, distorted playful vox and catchy one liners. Trippy beats emerge amidst curious vox and ecstatic leads. Dreamy soundscapes are introduced ever so lightly in the break before all mayhem is unleashed. Ferocious!

"Samsara": The album title track starts off with ethnic chants and distant wails descending from the far east while the basslines come rushing in like the ever flowing tide. Squelches, bubbling synths and dramatic effects are all here to add to the heightening of the tune. Tranquil melodies are perfectly timed out alongside the wails, building rather beautifully from the break, as the "Blade-like" leads take things to a whole other level!

"Dancing With Bobby": Epic vibes fill the air from the very seconds while anthem-like qualities unfold. Chopped vox and turbulent basslines follow as the main leads play a game of "hide and seek" throughout the track. "Tarzan-like" elevated jungle cries and mysterious vocal one liners add an essence of utter mischief to the track. Trippy vocals continue amongst jungle birds while the leads giddy as can be join in the dance! A full on adrenaline rush!

"Power (feat. Ezequiel)": Guitar riffs, harmonic pads and surprise rebellious preacher outbursts make up for the introduction of this one. Pumping psy-trance basslines follow among a plethora of mischievous vox and effects. Electric guitars mark their appearance dramatically alongside the drums while the atmosphere is completely transformed. All the elements come together in perfect harmony as the buildup can be contained no longer! Explosive, powerful, huge! "Infected Mushroom" fans will be all over this one!

"Fly High": Mystical vibes form like shadows in the mist. A sped up percussion, aural exhales and frenetic synths are utterly highlighted by far out female vocals and pumping basslines. Supercharged leads complete the aural puzzle we have before us paired up with semi-distorted arps. All this results in a playful buildup that toys with our innermost feelings until the energy contained is finally unleashed like a time bomb!

"Amazonas": This one builds slowly and majestically. We seem to be lost in a kind of long forgotten forest. The sounds of nature surrounding us instill a sense of tranquility, till the aggression contained within the drumbeats and pounding basslines chase the dreamy vibes far far away. Epic bittersweet melodies dipped in a distorted mystery make their appearance known by chasing away the sunlight. The break brings forth a small dosage of the lost tranquility paired up with cries of the long lost children of the forest. Bubbling synths and dark industrial leads carry a storm of chaos and raw energy to the tune that will without a doubt impress the trance warriors with its undeniable might!

"Mantra": The final track of the album is most fitting to serve as an epilogue to a truly remarkable aural voyage! Whooshes of cosmic air and spiritual female vocals uttered in the wind bring forth an essence long lost to us humans. The feeling of enlightenment rushes all over us like a cool wave of sound with the proper use of assorted chopped vox, playful rhythms and far out melodies alongside cosmic synths. A female chopped vox serenade complete with reverse effects, rhythms and a spiritual atmosphere totally seals the deal! Magnanimous!

MeowWow, 08 Orbit & Miyoki-Celestia [Of Us Records]

 

There have been so many exceptional releases over the past months it can be hard to keep track of them all. One of the latest releases that has caught my attention is an uncanny collaboration between absolute rising stars who definitely deserve any attention they may get in the dance music cosmos! "MeowWow" and "08 Orbit" are no strangers making waves in the scene with collaborations such as the aural masterpiece they worked on together, "Tears In The Rain" which was released on the mighty "Perfecto Records" by dance music legend "Paul Oakenfold". This time these two have been joined by talented singer/songwriter "Miyoki". The result of their endeavors is the wonderful "Celestia" out on "Of Us Records".

We are welcomed aboard by deep, pounding basslines, a light percussion and a smooth breeze of melodic goodness. When the word "Celestia" is uttered like a faint whisper as if from a fairy tale-like being a joyous yet melodramatic dance of vocal delight floods our ever receiving ears. "Miyoki" wails on pouring out what resides deep into the chasms of her soul while an ethereal violin-like instrument joins in the dance perfectly complementing her performance, transporting us to an aerial eternal palace high above the clouds. When the leads come rushing in like a tidal wave amongst it all, our soul rejoices from the emotional rush we are exposed to by these three amazing artists. 

A rare treat is the appearance of ascending hero "Danny Stubbs" assuming remix duties. Known for his formidable original productions on labels such as "Perfecto" and beyond he has also been known to deliver killer remixes as well. Danny has provided us with two versions to satisfy everyone's needs. A "Chill Out Remix" for those craving a more relaxed, blissful escape from the world and of course a dynamic remix suitable for the clubs.

"Danny Stubbs Remix": Danny has beefed up the main bassline, slightly upping the tempo while keeping the melodic assets of the tune in utter harmony. "Miyoki's" vocal is enhanced with filter effects and a slight echo giving it more of an ethereal essence, while adding a chopped vox serenade driving the emotional factor further. A playful touch is evident. The break in the track sports a return of the chopped vox serenade while celestial melodies come rushing in like the tide itself. Wonderful remix work indeed!

"Chill Out Remix": It is what one may expect by the name. Slower paced, ethereal and utterly focused on the melodic goodness and vocal brilliance. Emotional, heartfelt, magical. Made for watching the sun descend into the sea while colors of all hues fill the sky and the waters move as if in a silent mystical dance.

KaNa-Episode 10 [Snow Freques]

 

The whole beauty of the dance music world is the utter realization that new artists emerge out of the woodwork and arise, blooming like the rarest flowers, bringing their own vibrancy, color and scent to the world, thus enriching the already fruitful array of endless music alongside the established favorite artists of yesteryear. One of these artists hails from the land of the rising sun, a true artist who is passionate for her work, creating truly beautiful tracks while baring her soul unto the world! "KaNa" has illuminated our world with her vast array of releases always bringing something new and special to the scene. Her new E.P dubbed "Episode 10" is released on her home label "Snow Freques" and consists of four tracks each with their own significance and importance. Let's have a look within shall we?

"Play Of Colour" has that beloved melodic house essence to it that was championed around 2006 by the likes of "Tiesto" on albums such as the iconic "In Search Of Sunrise: Los Angeles". Melodic bliss, light percussion and a relaxed, feel good vibe unfolds complete with ethereal melodic droplets and lush piano medleys that can be found tucked away in the break of the tune. All this carries us away into a sea of serenity and infinite harmony.

"Play Of Colour (Meloless Mix)" is an alternative take on the previous tune as you may easily discover. This one stays relatively true to the original's tendencies while slightly altering a few of the elements, giving it a more organic dance music approach.

"Cosmoclock 21 (Kyohei Akagawa Remix)" is a track that was already included on the previous release by "KaNa" which was was well received by the public. No surprise that artists would be interested in giving their take on the beloved track. First in line is "Kyohei Akagawa". His version of the track slows things down a tad while focusing on the lush melodies and tranquil state while mixing it up with a kind of a breakbeatish attitude. Lush and fierce patterns of sound clash as if competing against each other. The easily recognizable chopped vox from the original are here as well adding a bit of mischief to the tune itself. An original approach by Kyohei.

"Adularescence" is the final track of the package. Percussion plays a big role here shaking things up while the rhythmical bassline sets the tone. Glass-like melodies flutter in and out alongside passionate sun drenched melodies and classical strings which add the appropriate dosage of drama to the mix. Audio fragments of nature add a peaceful essence to the tune giving it a definite blissful state. Fond memories of a joyous time in nature are surely evident here. Harmonious, beautiful, serene!

Something for everyone here, "KaNa" has certainly been inspired!

Mike Zaloxx & Sharon Valerona-Turn Back The Time [Suanda Music]

 

2023 seems to be a rather fruitful year for the wondrous world of dance music. So many great releases flying in from every angle it is surely quite a task to keep track of them all. I always like to take my time shifting through them and in turn highlight some of the releases that stood out, making an impact on myself and perhaps on many more dance music lovers out there!

 Relative newcomer Swiss producer "Mike Zaloxx" has certainly been making waves of his very own as of late in the scene. Incredible releases such as his riveting recent single alongside "Fawzy" on "We Are Trance" dubbed "Digital Utopia" are testaments to that fact. Exclusive Interview with DIM3NSION!

The amazing thing in dance music is the global scale of it all and the connection we all have to it. Artists and fans alike connect, form friendships and are of course unified by the wondrous power of the music itself. Artists arise from all corners of the world, fueled by their passion and love for the music they play and many times create. 

One of the most charismatic and gifted artists out there is without a doubt an artist from Vigo, Spain who answers to the name "DIM3NSION". He has been a bright beacon in the dance music scene for many years now, constantly bringing something new and exciting to the field. His steady flow of uncanny releases over the years have brought large smiles to many dance music faithful fans around the world. Creating music for him is not a job or favorite pass time. It is a necessity and that can be seen if you pay close attention to any of his releases. They are filled with pure emotion and an energy that brightens the mood on any given day. It is always a rare pleasure to interview him and I am pleased to share this exclusive interview with you all for "MusicTalk15".

Question 1: Last time we sat down and talked was in Amsterdam during “ADE 2017” for an interview for “Trancefix.nl”. Great times! Has the “Amsterdam Dance Event” become a yearly tradition for you ever since and are you perhaps planning a comeback for the next edition this year?

Hey Kostas, first of all, thank you so much for the interview. It´s nice to talk with you again 6 years later! Absolutely, I think ADE is a must for any artist. I couldn’t join the previous editions but this year I will come back to see old friends and open new business.

Question 2: Covid and the lockdown around the world was a huge blow to the scene that we love and the artists more than most. Did you work during that devastating period and if not how did you stay occupied? Did you dive into creating new music and in return focusing on your craft?

Well, that chapter in our lives was indeed quite bad for everybody but I have been always focused on music. I´m positive in life and I was thinking all the time that the covid shit will stop and the situation would change sooner or later so I was still focused on creating music. There were some changes in my organization as well during that chapter and it was the reason why I have not released as much music as I would have love to in 2021 and especially 2022 but finally, I´m getting where I want to be and you can see that this year with all the music that I’ve already released.

Question 3: What were the highlights of last year for you and what are you most looking forward to this year?

For me 2022 doesn’t have any highlights to be honest with you. I just released two songs last year and that’s unacceptable for me. I´m an artist able to do more than 2 songs in 365 days. Nowadays an artist needs one release per month as minimum to keep being visible so I was very disappointed with that. Most of the songs I´m signing and releasing this year have been produced in 2022 but they have been there waiting for the right moment.

 Question 4: What would you say were your favorite tracks of 2022 and what artists do you acknowledge for their contribution to the scene so far this year?

Maybe the remix I did for "Sunnteck – Explorer", featured on the "In Search Of Sunrise" compilation was my favorite of last year. I have been experimenting and discovering a lot of artists. I´m a big fan of the combination of future rave and trance. Armin is doing awesome for example with his club mixes of "Come Around Again", "Let You Down"... that type of sound is what I´m feeling at the moment. "Skytech", "BLR", "Aname" or "Avao" are some of the names I’ve listened to the most last year.

Question 5: With severe restrictions and lockdown in effect we witnessed quite a few artists locking themselves away in the studio and returning with their premier artist albums. You have given us loads of magnanimous single releases over the years. Do you feel that the time has come for a “DIM3NSION” artist album this year? 

From the point of view of an artist, creating an album is like the ultimate goal. It´s like seeing your full creation out there in the hands of the people, not only digital, you can convert your music into something tangible. It´s something I really want to do. But on the other hand, I don´t feel it is the right moment yet, I need to grow a little bit more, have a bigger fan reach and keep releasing music often on the biggest labels like I´m doing this year. After that, let´s see what´s going on, but an album is a goal for me. Absolutely yes.

Question 6: One of your most renowned and instantly recognizable tracks is the wonderful “Origami”. Still one of my faves ever! Do you have any plans for a follow up style-wise to that tune or perhaps a rework of the beloved tune for 2023?

Absolutely! "Origami" is probably the most beautiful thing that happened to me. Also "Mangata" which was a follow-up of Origami has worked pretty well. I think there are more people who know me because of Mangata rather than Origami.... Certainly, I already did a follow up of this track and it was "Theia".My first signing of this year, it was released on "FSOE" last January and reached a top 10 position on Beatport. I`m very happy with what "Theia" has brought.

Question 7: You are mostly known for your most vivid instrumental tunes. It was a big surprise to see you working on a vocal release. How did that come about and will we see more vocal tunes from you in the near future? 

In the beginning I was not comfortable working with vocals because there is a longer process until it gets released. You have to wait for approvals, lyrics, the recorded vocals, changes, etc... It´s true that for the people,vocal tracks work always much better than instrumentals but this year, I felt it was the time to change this. I actually have signed to Armada 3 vocal tunes for the second half of 2023, so yeah. In the near future there will be more vocal tunes!

Question 8: Do you have any favorite movies or series that you enjoy watching? Have you ever considered working on a movie soundtrack?

Not right now. What I love the most from the TV series or films is listening to the soundtracks and sometimes it makes me lose the dialogues... :p I enjoy them a lot and I took many as inspiration but for now, I prefer to keep my focus on my business, my releases as "DIM3NSION", "Benner" and also the music I´m doing as a ghost producer for other artists, clients, online classes and my "Patreon" on: patreon.com/dim3nsion

Question 9: Years back you had provided us with a DJ mix compilation for “Flashover Recordings”. Can we expect a future mix compilation from you once more in the near future?

That compilation was very fun to make. I selected and mixed personally together with the a&r of "Flashover" at that time, Celwin Frenzen (owner of "EDCT Recordings" nowadays). It is not in my plans to do another mix compilation in the future but I´m planning to run my own record label in 2024!

 

Question 10: Do you happen to have any exciting events you happen to be performing at this year that you would like to share with us?

Well, after covid I lost all my gigs, there were cool things in schedule like a China tour, some dates in the USA as well as in Europe... but everything stopped for me. My plans right now are to make the best music possible, release as much music as I can this year and working to find the right people to work in order to have gigs again in 2024, nothing in schedule for now unfortunately.

Question 11: The Spanish trance family is definitely on a rise. Over the years we have seen more and more trance music oriented events popping up plus the rise of the “Summer Story” festival. All great things for the scene there. What are your thoughts on the matter as a Spaniard and as an artist? Do you see Spain having more and more attention from the fans wishing to travel there for an event or from the artists themselves expressing a similar interest?

The Spanish trancefamily has grown for sure, but is still a small niche. Good people and good fans. I feel beloved and I´m grateful for that but trance in Spain is still really small. Spain is not a good country for electronic dance music, most of the people just want have fun at the festivals, a festival is a business and they follow the trends. I understand completely and respect it but for example nowadays, most of the festivals are focused in techno which is the bigger genre at the moment.

Question 12: “Ferry Corsten” has always been a big inspiration to you. The concept change of his radio show from “Corsten’s Countdown” to “Resonation Radio” was a daring move yet met with great success. You have worked with him many times in the past. Will we perhaps see you assuming guest mix duties on his radio show soon?

Who knows? I´m always working to have the best music possible and get a bigger reach and opportunities. Being his guest on "Resonation" would be a pleasure for me and another cool opportunity :)

Question 13: Rumor has it that you have a brand new release coming out on legendary label “Future Sound of Egypt”! Would you care to share with us some information regarding this release?

 Yes! This new track is called "Funktionlust"' a German word which means "the pleasure of doing what one is made to do or what one does the best". It was released on Monday April 3^rd and I´m very excited for this release. Happy to come back to "Future Sound Of Egypt". I still love this type of sound and FSOE is one of the biggest labels for trance, you have to be there if you are a trance artist. So I´m very grateful to "Aly & Fila" and the team for signing this record!

 

Quincy Weigert-Silhouette E.P [Nethertapes Records]

 

The year 2023 has already brought forth many amazing releases our way. Always joyful to showcase new and exciting releases by some of the dance music scene's most talented and diverse artists out there. One of the artists that has gained my respect with his steady flow of releases and increased quality time after time through his music is American DJ/Producer "Quincy Weigert". Have featured several of his releases in the past and when I listened to his new musical offering, the thrilling "Silhouette E.P", I was compelled to write yet another review! The aforementioned E.P consists of two gripping tracks: "Silhouette" and "Afterdark" and is out on his home label "Nethertape Records". Let's peer inside this mesmerizing aural offering shall we?

 "Silhouette": Distant voices like long lost spirits drift in among sturdy basslines, dark patterns and western inspired guitar riffs thus creating a truly unique sounding atmosphere. Rushes of sound much like the rustling of leaves and curious melodies move through the mix while haunting female vocals eerily float within the tune sending chills down our spines. A truly unique tune that has a lot to offer and will amaze the clubbers wherever it is played out!

 "Afterdark": Chugging basslines, intriguing melodies and nefarious synths lay about forming a rather bleak and brooding aural picture before us! Female vocal wails and calls much like the enchantresses of old tempt us further inward. Assorted effects and epic melodies further complete this aural imagery as we find ourselves getting utterly lost, searching wide eyed through the thick mist and darkness equipped with only flaming torches to guide us through these dark, uncharted lands. Curiosity, adventure and an inner calling to the deepest depths of our being pushes us further on to the discovery of this dark, mystical, treacherous world! Another epic tune to add to your vast musical libraries!

Being in the game for quite a spell, he has been climbing that ever elusive and never ending ladder of success, which a select few manage to reach the very top. Paul has without a doubt been conquering the dance music lovers hearts all these years. 

 The year 2023 is a very special one for Paul as he reaches a very significant milestone in his career: thirty years of involvement in the scene! Thirty glorious years of djing, producing and in general honing his craft! To celebrate this marvelous occasion he has sat down, reflecting on his past and has selected thirty of his most special and defining works of aural art to share with us on his forthcoming new album "30 Years A DJ". The vibe continues with another of Paul's tunes "Neptune" dedicated to the sea God of old Greek myths which perfectly captures life in the long lost kingdom under the sea! His remixes are also present here such as "Solar Warde-William Medagli, Thallulah and Shemsu" alongside originals "Reign", "Textured Dream", "Hercules" plus exciting collabs such as the wonderful "The Wave (feat. Lithuanian artist Andrej Anskinas, widely known under his artist name "Anske", is one of those artists that continue to evolve and thrive in the scene, each tune he unleashes more beautiful than the next. He recently delighted us with the birth of a new alias he dubbed "AN93" which showcases his ties to a techier, darker side, an alter ego if you will. His previous single under this alias "Spacewarp", was greeted with much admiration when released on "Coldharbour Recordings" sub-label "Coldharbour Black". Now he is back once more on "Markus Schulz's" beloved imprint with the uber cool tune "Icrebreaker".

 High energy kicks, a hyped up percussion and a supercharged rhythm unfolds from early on. Dark grooves burst out into the open, while a semi-distorted synth takes control, engulfing it all like a dark, threatening cloud. The brief break arrives in due time, bringing with it moments of a temporary tranquility right before a rare transformation occurs. Exclusive Interview with Steve Dekay!

Over the last years Latin America has been providing the dance music world with some of the most consistent, versatile and talented artists out there. From "Hernan Cattaneo" to "Heatbeat" and "KhoMha", all of them attain the raw talent, motivation and love for the music they played. No surprise they all elevated themselves in the dance music cosmos and continue the gradual ascent to further success! Another talented artist to emerge onto the aforementioned scene comes to us from Colombia. 

 Steven Rengifo is known in the world of dance music under his artist name "Steve Dekay". A producer of undeniable talent, Steve has found success in the field under his own brand name and his alter ego "Skender", one suited for the darker, techier sound he has ushered into the world. His creations have found a home on esteemed labels such as "Critical State", "Universal Nation", "Who's Afraid Of 138?", "Suanda", "Future Sound Of Egypt" and "Coldharbour Recordings" among many others. An artist who lives for his craft and continues to push the boundaries of his sound, a fact that can easily be seen in his body of work and pesky bootlegs of favorite tracks of yesteryear. Aside from his production abilities, Steve has conquered the populous' hearts while gaining a loyal following over the years as a prominent DJ as well. His terrific past performances lead him to a wondrous European tour in 2023 through some of clubland's finest landmarks such as "Ibiza", "Prague", "Madrid" and "Zurich". 

 Following his career over the years, it was only natural that I would like to have the honor to conduct an exclusive interview with him for "MusicTalk15". Fate intervened and I was delighted to not only make an imminent to "Prague" in "The Czech Republic", a city of amazing architecture and stunning beauty, but to also witness the magician in action at "Radost FX" for the mighty "TranceNation Reloaded!" So here it is, the interview I have been promising you, exclusively for your reading pleasure! Thanks for everything man!

Question 1: How did you first discover the wonderful world of dance music and what was the key factor that got you hooked?

I discovered the world of dance music when I was a kid, I remember I liked to dance with my brother, jumping in our room listening to those Trance classics.

The most beautiful thing I like of this music is the melody, it is everything!

Question 2: You certainly have a unique artist name. Could you please share the story behind its inception? 

"Steve Dekay" is a project I started in 2014 approximately, all my music skills are completely empyrical. I remember I watched a lot of tutorials and read some forums about how to make dance music. So in 2015 was when I started this project professionally and focused in Trance and Progressive music.

Actually I'm working on Techno music too, using some Trance elements, like melodies etc.

Question 3: You have been working in the studio feverishly, producing loads of new music. What inspires you to create such special tracks and are any of them inspired by real life events or personal experiences?

The inspiration comes from random moments in my life, it could be by listening to other genres, a movie etc. But it also comes from some personal experiences like visiting new cities or countries, meeting new cultures etc.

Question 4: We certainly are aware of your tremendous productions under your main artist name. Really been loving your work under your alter ego “Skender” as well. What is the significance behind it and what led you to conjure up an alias?

As I said before, under "Steve Dekay" I make Trance music, but actually I'm working on more Techno tunes, that's the reason I wanted to create a new alias focused like 'in a dark side' of dance music, in this case with Techno, Melodic Techno. I like Techno very melodic but also dark and harder too. That's what I'm currently working on.

Question 5: You recently came back from your first European tour which included several gigs in Ibiza, Madrid and Prague amongst others. How did you enjoy the whole process and experience and how did it feel to connect with your fans from all over the world?

These experiences were really GREAT! Because I met new people, new places, new cultures and the most important thing, I enjoyed my music with different crowds, every crowd with its passion for music, so every crowd is different and very special, so it's something that will surely remain in my memories.

Question 6: Speaking of recent events your explosive performance in Prague for “TranceNation Reloaded” was a huge success! As one being there I certainly witnessed the crowd loving it and devouring tune after tune. How did you enjoy the event and the marvelous city of Prague in general?

That event was really good! I love the 'intimate' clubs where you are very close to the fans, where you can feel that heat from the crowd, so yes it was really good!

And the city, wow, it's just beautiful! I hope to be there again soon!

Question 7: One of the tunes that stood out for me and the rest of the audience during your performance at “TranceNation” was your remix of the beloved tune “Played-A-Live” by “Safri-Duo”. Are there any plans for an official release in the near future?

I love that remix, it got a really good reaction every place I played this tune and yeah I'm working to release it as an official release soon! :D

Question 8: The latest fashion over the last years is reinventing classic tunes from the distant past. Is there a certain track or tracks that you would like to remix to your heart’s content and for what reason?

There are some classic tracks I always wanted to make my own remix of, like "Home" by "Paul van Dyk & Johnny McDaid", this track is pure gold! The melody, the drums, the vocals! It's just a beautiful tune!

Question 9: Aside from your musical interests do you perhaps have any hobbies or favorite pass times?

I'm a football lover haha so yeah I like watching it and playing it too and also working out.

Question 10: Are you a fan of a specific movie or series? If so have you ever considered remixing music from it or creating a track in tribute to it?

I like series about thriller, time travel and about the universe, I'm a big fan of the movies or series and I want to create my own version of 'Interstellar' the main theme, this melody is epic, one of the best melodies I've ever heard!

Question 11: Do you enjoy traveling and discovering new cities, experiencing the culture and all? Which has been your favorite destination so far and where would you like to visit next?

Very difficult to choose to be honest. But Ibiza is magic, every place is beautiful and the connection with music is really great!

I'd like to visit Amsterdam and the UK, to make my debut there would be really good! But there are more places I'd like to play.

Good music! More Trance music, vocal Trance, Melodic Techno and dark-harder Techno :D haha
