As we leave summer ever so slowly behind we begin to focus on the next season at hand. Fall brings with it a different kind of light, a season of faded colors and mysterious shadows. The perfect time for diving into this delicious six track E.P you have before you. One of our favorite sub-labels “Perfecto Black” focuses its energy on “the sound of the underground”. This E.P is zinging with talent as you will swiftly realize. We are ever so proud to present you with some of the finest tunes courtesy of a fine selection of artists such as “Aldor”, “Jetason”, “Joe Fisher”, “XZYKO”, “Zuccasam”, “Stub & Foxtrot”, “Aradya” and “Nytefix & Sim”.

Each tune is a representation of each artist’s unique vision of what a proper underground track should sound like.

“In The Dark” contains dark, mystical tones and an inner vibrance within. Emotional and so full of life, yet dark and murky at the same time. Complex and beautiful. Let’s all bask in the darkness created by “Aldor & Jetason”!

“Addictive” is an epic collab between two of South America’s rising stars “Joe Fisher” and “XZYKO”. Filled with techy vibes, hypnotic grooves, distorted leads, offbeat synths and a futuristic yet retro sounding tune full of originality.

“Cloudwalker” is another killer collab here. This one is between “Stub & Foxtrot”. Expect to encounter cosmic melodies, trippy synths and deep, dark basslines. A well executed concept combining ethereal and subterranean elements purely justifying its title.

“The Abyss Beckons”: “Aradya” is back on our label with a riveting tune, which is deep, techy, cavernous and definitely nefarious. Expect to encounter eerie melodies, mystical female choir segments and loads of raw distortion which create the ultimate deep down, undergroundish vibe to be sure!

“Soulbind”: A new and exciting duo that go by the name of “Nytefix & Sim” bring us the infamous “Soulbind”. This is a deep, dark, progressive affair. Gripping synthwork, enigmatic cinematic vocals and curious spacial effects are all here, creating an atmosphere that is without a doubt futuristic with a spacial flavor. Soul piercing and mind boggling, a tune that will get your mind and body moving!

“84”: “Zuccasam” delivers a killer tune here as well. Techy tuneage with loads of twists and turns. Pesky and mischievous tune that even features a fine lecture on the theory and origins of house. Expect a trip down memory lane back to 1984! Dark, twisted and proper undergroundish house.

Thirty Years of Perfecto Records

 

The dance music world is a wild, wacky and ever shifting place. Trends come and go, specific sounds or styles get pushed to the forefront while others get ditched and ultimately get kicked to the curb. Underground goes mainstream, attaining a place in the spotlight while the current sound or trend, rides the wave of popularity! A phenomenon so natural and common like the rise and fall of the tide of the mysterious kingdom of the deep, blue sea. 

 There have been a handful of record labels out there seeking to make a difference and in the end leave their mark in the scene, altering it and enhancing it, enriching it if you will for the greater good. There is a label out there that has stood the test of time and shaped the way, guiding us like lost souls, educating us like a wise elder on proper dance music all of these years. That label is none other than the mighty "Perfecto Records" founded in 1989 by the legendary DJ/Producer and all around dance music aficionado "Paul Oakenfold". Anyone may look back over the years and remember a favorite track which meant something to them, containing a special memory perhaps, that would trace us back to "Perfecto Records". A record label responsible for such a wide variety of releases, styles and eclectic sounds. It has featured House, Trance, Techno, Progressive and Breaks. It has been a home to artists such as "Jan Johnston", "BT", "Sandra Collins", "Adam White", "Nat Monday", "Susy Del Vecchio", "Kenneth Thomas", "Danny Stubbs", "Swab & Joey Mova" and so many others. The label of course has been cleverly divided into several sub-labels suited to showcase each sound and style accordingly. Along with the main label of "Perfecto Records" we have "Perfecto Fluoro", "Perfecto Black", "Perfecto House" and a relative newcomer dubbed "Perfecto Street". All of these contain the soul and essence of what is "Perfecto" .

 This year we are in celebration mode as we celebrate thirty wonderful years of "Perfecto Records".It was only appropriate to schedule a tour to properly celebrate this marvelous occasion. "Paul Oakenfold" set out on a thrilling Summer European tour which took him from Ibiza, Spain to Glasgow, Scotland, Dubrovnik, Croatia, Prague, Czech Republic, Athens, Greece and the island of Malta to name a few. Each destination as beautiful and as special as the next, all played a huge part in the grand scheme of things, the grand celebration of something that has become much more than a label. An ideology, a global subculture that has gained a large number of followers over these many many years. I discovered "Paul Oakenfold" and "Perfecto Records" many moons ago. There is a reason as to why Paul and Perfecto have remained a force to be reckoned with. A man who has always remained ahead of the game in every step he has made, whose utter passion for proper dance music is evident! A label whose ethos has and continues to remain quality over quantity! No small wonder why so many artists have risen by being nurtured and built up by "Perfecto". New generation heroes of this later years include "Anunnakis", "Glenn Molloy", "Sherpa", "Madison Palmer" all have begun to see their ships come sailing in.

 Let us all rejoice and celebrate! Thirty years of love for the music, thirty years of beloved releases, thirty years of chills and thrills, thirty years of radiance and excellence! Thirty years of Perfecto! Here's to many many more! Keep on guiding the way!    

Rezwan Khan-Apollyon [Perfecto Fluoro]

 

New York resident "Rezwan Khan", has rapidly becoming one of the scene's most riveting artists. His approach towards the genre and his craftiness of constructing a beat that easily stands out among all others is most certainly his forte. One of his recent releases the genre defying "Underground Anthem" under his "VaNISH" alias, gained him a return to one of dance music's most prolific labels: the mighty "Perfecto Records", brainchild of British dance music legend "Paul Oakenfold".

 His new creation brings him to Perfecto soil once more. This time he showcases his production skills on Perfecto's sublabel, the glorious and mesmerizing "Perfecto Fluoro". "Apollyon" is the name and in a way it is a continuation of the saga of its predecessor. Rezwan's affinity for those intriguing, mystifying dark beats has lead him down a familiar path once more.

 Dark, abysmal patterns lay out before us while eerie, hazy melodies like phantoms parade in mid air  amidst blood curdling effects that creep out from every dark corner startling one and all. Just as we begin to calm down, wild and wicked leads emerge from the shadows spreading fear and chaos in their path, ready to dominate our mind and crush our soul with their might. Darkness and decay are here in full force while hope seems to have long been abandoned. This one packs a mighty punch giving us a glimpse into a world wrought by darkness, despair and utter deconstruction. What was once fair and pure has now become foul and broken. The end may be nigh but humanity has and will continue to persevere making its final stand when the fate of all things has come to wither and die. 

A tune that will not easily be forgotten as "Apollyon" is here to stay! Another sure hit for "Rezwan Khan".

VaNISH-Underground Anthem [Perfecto Records]

 

One of the artists on the rise in the dance music scene is without a doubt Rezwan Khan, more commonly known under his artist name "VaNISH". Having released a string of hit releases on labels such as "State Control Records", "Redux Recordings", "Appointed Recordings" and "Heaven's Gate" among others he is riding the freight train on his road to success. His latest release brings him to legendary record label "Perfecto Records", owned and curated by none other than dance music superstar and renowned artist "Paul Oakenfold" himself. It is appropriately dubbed "Underground Anthem" and upon only a few seconds of play the we easily discover why. This tracks screams "underground" as it is solely embedded into the very essence of the track itself.

 We are swiftly transported into a dark and murky atmosphere which unfolds gradually with every step we take. As we tread upon the black soil looking up towards the ominous, bleak sky we feel lost and oblivious to all. Eerie voices attempt to frighten us while we search for a path throughout the thick dewy grass and gray mists that surround our every move. Fearless we carry on when lesser mortals would easily have turned back, head bowed in shame. Ravens caw from afar piercing the deep silence, while an ever increasing wind makes its dramatic appearance as if on a vicious pursuit of the gray ominous clouds that have gathered high above. With the shrill howl of the wind in our ears we push on, determined to continue on our quest, seeking what we have come to obtain in this harsh terrain and this desolate, ruined and unwelcome land. We shall emerge victorious!

Painting eloquent imagery such as the one above appears to be Rezwan's forte. Solid basslines balanced amongst dark, ominous grooves wrought with mist and decay play the protagonist role in this tune while mysterious, spooky voices spice things up as daunting synths prepare us for the nefarious leads and clever breakbeat approach which completes this enticingly good scarefest anthem. Perfect for those slots towards the morning hours that call for a soundtrack much like this. 

Mass congrats to Rezwan for this underground masterpiece that blends the best of more than one genres such as techno and progressive. May he continue to prosper and bless us with his musical diversity and not simply vanish into the good night.

Adam White & Suzie Del Vecchio-Law Unto Myself [Perfecto Records]

 

If you were sucked into the world of dance music in the late 90s, slowly beginning your voyage into that realm, discovering those sought out tunes played out by some of the biggest names in the scene, you must have come across one of those legendary tracks that were championed by none other than "Paul Oakenfold". One particular track that was hammered away time and time again and has withstood the test of time is undoubtedly the magnanimous "Law Unto Myself" by "Konkrete", naturally released on "Perfecto Records". Critically acclaimed and a firm favorite amongst many it has been regarded as a priceless jewel of yesteryear. English DJ/Producer "Adam White" known for his versatile work on "Perfecto Records" and beyond was more than eager to step up to the task of renovating this classic, supplying his own rendition. To do it absolute justice he sat down and completely reinvented the track from the very foundation up, giving us a glimpse of this tune through his own eyes. Enlisting fellow "Perfecto" colleague singer/songwriter from Mexico "Suzie Del Vecchio" was a must and together they sought out to bring this track to new heights. The hype for this new version has been undeniable and the public has been awaiting it ever since rumors of its inception spread like wildfire. The result is a bombastic version, one that Adam and Suzie can be mighty proud of and of course is out on "Perfecto Records".

 One familiar with Adam's work can easily pick out the signature sound he has become known for throughout the track. Big pounding basslines, spine tingling synths and a cheeky use of Suzie's "Law Unto Myself" one liner morph forever inwards much like a chameleon adapting to its surroundings, over the ascension of the melody and rhythm within serving as a tasty aural appetizer before the main course. A pesky buildup gets the endorphins rushing while Suzie gives it her all, singing her heart out. Emotions run freely here as anger, anguish, disappointment and ultimately determination are evident throughout her performance. As she utters her final words, leads of fury escape their captivity within the soul as mayhem is unleashed upon the world. Reverse vocal effects move graciously through the mix emphasizing on the dynamics of the track itself. Powerful, just and adamant, the sentence has been carried out so prepare to witness the crowd go wild when this one is played out at all the big events.
